Play Your Game
Play your game,” is a phrase coach Herb Brooks continuously repeated to the USA Hockey Team at Lake Placid.
“Play your game” is a reminder to focus and not be caught up in the thief of comparison. Stay the course. You have your own timeline.
Pause and celebrate.
Pause and show care.
Be there for others.
Then, reset and keep going.
Operating out of a “play your game” mindset can be a challenge for a giver. To do anything but feels like a conflict of integrity. If giving makes me happy, let it. Some might say if I don’t “play my game” — I won’t achieve. What if I am achieving, and it looks different?
It’s a delicate balance to wear two different “skis”. One is where I want to go, the other is where I’m pulled to go. To find a balance wearing both is my game. Both are where I’m meant to be. What if rather than a player — I am a referee?
What’s your calling?
What do you feel pulled towards?
Are you playing your game?
Where do you think God wants you?
What are you doing to get there?
